Garden project aims to improve Crystal Lake one raindrop at a time

As long as raindrops keep falling on Crystal Lake’s head, a new rain garden being constructed at Pine Street and Oriole Trail will thwart pollution, stall flooding and bring climate science to a whole generation of students.

That’s the scope of the project described by Nancy Gonsiorek, a volunteer with the Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee in McHenry County.

The garden will include a display garden, pond and a dry stream bed running down to a retention area where native vegetation has been planted. Five homes were razed in early spring to facilitate the garden, Gonsiorek said.

Lowe’s is giving full-time workers in its stores the choice to schedule four-day work weeks. The home improvement retailer made the decision after its five-day schedule left many associates complaining about an inability to find a balance between their personal and work lives as a result of having very few consecutive days off, reports Retail Wire. An email or text message that uses the Lowe’s Home Improvement name congratulates recipients on winning a “BTU Portable Air Conditioner.”

In July 2022, during a heat wave across the U.S. and other countries, we reviewed an email that claimed Lowe’s Home Improvement was giving away free air conditioners in a sweepstakes. In reality, there was no giveaway, and the email was a scam.
