ADRIAN — A garden at an apartment on Adrian’s west side is the Adrian Women’s Garden Club’s Garden of the Month for June.
Sharlene Drake’s garden at Nob Hill Apartments No. 63 in the Emerson building has been years in the making, according to Sandra Hoover, spokesperson for the Adrian Women’s Garden Club.
“Sharlene started this garden 17 years ago when she moved,” Hoover said in an email. “It started out slowly and now it has largely grown.”
Drake’s apartment-surrounding garden features hostas, roses, dianthus and lilies. There are also several hanging baskets affixed to the exterior of the apartment complex. Drake does much of the maintenance and care for the flowers and garden, Hoover said.
The Adrian Women’s Garden Club selects homes around the Adrian community — and beyond — each year between the months of May and September as the Garden of the Month. Those that are selected for the award are given a sign for the front lawn announcing that house — or apartment — as the Garden of the Month.
Those who would like to have their home garden selected or nominated for the Garden of the Month designation may contact Hoover by calling 517-442-3775.
