A Pekin-based furniture store plans to open its first Peoria location this summer.
Steger’s Furniture, which was founded by Joseph Steger 86 years ago, currently operates a warehouse and showroom in Pekin. The new location will be situated at 8727 N. Knoxville Ave. in the NorthPoint Shopping Center.
The family-owned business offers furniture for living rooms, dining rooms, home offices and bedrooms. Customers can also find mattresses and home decor at the store.
“I am proud to have raised my family in this community and to have welcomed Abbey and Bryan into the business,” said third-generation owner Jack Steger. “Family businesses and locally owned operations are at the heart of what makes a community grow and we are excited to bring that growth to Peoria.”
Once open, Steger’s Furniture expects to bring over 20 jobs to the area.
The 50,000-square foot space previously housed Ashley Furniture HomeStore. The business announced its final sale in late 2022 after deciding not to renew its lease.
Vice President of Operations Bryan Steger said the company will complete interior and exterior renovations to the space before opening. Abbey Tilstra, vice president of merchandising, said the Peoria location will include “a large mattress footprint, outlet center, and an all-new custom design center.”
