WESTPORT — The United Nations Plaza in Manhattan is well known for hosting some of the world’s most influential leaders. Howard Lathrop, one of the architects, contributed to the building’s design with the New Haven-based firm Roche Dinkeloo.
Lathrop, now based in Westport, designs homes around the Fairfield County town, including 88 Partrick Road.
Completed in 2012, the home received the Connecticut Home Building Industry award during its first year. It was awarded for the overall contemporary build, according to the listing agent, Cindy Raney, of Cindy Raney and Team of Coldwell Banker Realty.
Some unique architecture designs are the intent to build into the property’s hillside. This allows most rooms to have access to the outdoor patio, on both the lower and upper level. Design ideas stemmed from his travels, including the staircase inspired by The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island and the two-story book shelf is based on New York City’s Morgan Library, according to Raney.
Not only did architecture inspiration stem from other states, but some of the materials did as well. The wood-covered sunroom, nicknamed “The Pentagon” by the owners for its five-sided oculus at the top, is made from reclaimed wood from a New Hampshire barn. It was constructed solely through tongue and groove, Raney noted.
The 11-year-old home, in addition to the modern look, is fit for modern living for its complete geothermal and solar power. Raney added that the home costs less than a thousand dollars a month to run due to its sustainable energy.
Other modern living amenities include a spa and sauna off of the main bedroom wing. A yoga room with heated floors with access to the outdoor patio area and saltwater pool.
The home is suitable for family living with its six bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms. Raney enjoys how the home provides warmth despite its large area of 9,000 square feet.
Although comfortable for everyday living, the home is also an ideal place to entertain both indoors and outdoors. Entertaining options include a 1,350-bottle wine cellar, off of the main living room and a bar with a hidden cigar lounge, according to the listing notes.
Raney calls 88 Partrick Road a nice combination of family living and entertaining space, describing the home as “modern masterpiece.” Some comments during private tours on what the house is compared to is either a home in California or Aspen, Colorado.
The 88 Partrick Road property is presented by Coldwell Banker Realty and listed by Cindy Raney and Team, Coldwell Banker Realty 203-257-8320.
This story has been updated to say the staircase was inspired by The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island.
